New Addition to Queensland Buffer Stop Range

At the recent Brisbane Model Train Show, Queensland Scale Models released a new addition to the Queensland Trackside Accessory Range.

The Queensland Standard Rail type Buffer Stop - Kinked Rail Version, in HOn3.5 - 12mm gauge, offers QR modellers another common variation of the Queensland rail formed buffers. This model buffer stop is made from white metal components and is designed to be 100% compatible with Peco Code 75 12mm track. The new kinked rail version is available in a single pack, or in a pack of 3.

The existing buffer in our range (QSM-RBS1) will continue to be available, and is a companion product to the new release.

New Queensland Point Lever Range

Queensland Scale Models is pleased to announce that our new Queensland Point Lever range is now available for sale.

The QSM 1:87 Scale Queensland Point Lever Range depicts the 4 main types used by Queensland Railways for many decades. Our model point levers are one piece brass castings, which allows for high strength and long life on your layout. They are highly detailed and dimensionally accurate to scale. Best of all, they are proudly made in Australia.

These point levers are still in widespread use today throughout Queensland on main lines, branch lines and in yards. Some of these point levers and associated equipment have also found use in the Queensland sugar cane industry 610mm gauge rail systems.

The QSM website has been updated with the new point lever page added to the Trackside Accessory section of the website navigation bar. The Queensland Point Lever Page contains comprehensive information on each of the model levers packs, as well as an order form for the new range. The webpage also includes information on the prototype point levers, as well as photographs showing examples of operations and installations.

QSM - San Mateo Line Joint Project

Queensland Scale Models and San Mateo Line are proud to announce that the two manufacturers have teamed in a joint project, to offer Queensland modellers the very first 1:87 HO Scale signalling based on the true outlines and features of QR Signals.

San Mateo Line is a leading Australian model railway manufacturer specialising in signalling for Australian model railways based in Mildura in Victoria. San Mateo already has a range of signals for Victorian, South Australian, and more recently New South Wales modellers. Queensland modellers should be excited that San Mateo is now developing an individual range of signals for the QR modeller. Queensland Scale Models first approached San Mateo last year, and a joint project was commenced soon after with QSM providing the research and technical information on the prototype signals.

The new QR Signal Range is planned to be a very comprehensive range of patterns and configurations that will be expanded over time. The first releases for the new range will be two and three colour aspect signals, available with or without a shunt signal. The prototype pattern which we have followed will be based on the ML style signal head, and the Westinghouse shunt signal. This pattern has been in use on the QR system since the early 1980's and they are still in use today and very common. All signal heads will be fitted with LED lighting, as well as the shunt signals which will be fully operational.

The new QR Signal Range will be available in kit form, as well as handmade, fully assembled, painted and ready to install. Modellers will also have the option of ordering custom made individual signal identification number boards and signs associated with these signals to give your station or yard its individual look.

The QR Signal Range will be available exclusively from San Mateo Line and Queensland Scale Models.

The QR signals will be made in Australia from primarily brass and white metal components, and the first production samples for the new range will be completed shortly. Trial and development samples will be on display at Brisbane Model Train Show. If you are looking for signalling for your QR layout modelled in the period from the early 1980's, to the present day, you will be very interested to see what we have to offer. Queensland Scale Models is also pleased to announce that Mr Bill Dick, the owner of San Mateo Line, will be present at the Queensland Scale Models stand at Brisbane Model Train Show with a display of his products, and is looking forward to meeting Queensland modellers and discussing your signalling needs. San Mateo Line's existing model signal range for other Australian states will also be available for purchase at the QSM stand.

This kit will be replaced in our Queensland building range by an entirely new QR station building kit which is currently under development . The new building is planned for release at Brisbane Model Train Show if all goes well.

So if you were intending on purchasing a “Karrangar” kit, now would be the time to place an order before they are all gone.

New Products Released at 2015 Brisbane Model Train Show

The 2015 Brisbane Model Train Show was once again a very successful show for Queensland Scale Models.

At the show we had the pleasure of introducing Queensland Narrow Gauge Models to the Queensland modelling scene.

Queensland Narrow Gauge Models is owned by Lincoln Driver and the main focus of this manufacturer will be HOn2½ cane railway models. The first releases from Queensland Narrow Gauge Models are cane bins, available in four different styles. Queensland Scale Models will be the sole retail outlet for Queensland Narrow Gauge Models, and we are pleased to have Lincoln's products aboard.

New Station Building Kit

Queensland Scale Models released a new 1/87 Scale QR Station Building kit named "PITTVALE" at the show. This building is smaller than our earlier station building release, and is suitable for a small rural siding, or a country branch line. While this building is small, it is packed with features, and it is our most detailed building model to date.

Our website is currently being updated and the new information including order forms should be available online in the next few days.

2015 Brisbane Model Train Show

The Brisbane Model Train Show is fast approaching, and this year the show will return to Brisbane Showgrounds on the weekend of May 9-10.

This year, our stand will be located opposite the superb "Wallaville" HOn2½ scale cane railway layout, owned by a good friend and associate of Queensland Scale Models, Lincoln Driver. If you have never seen "Wallaville" before, it is well worth a look at Queensland cane railway modelling at its finest.

The Queensland Scale Models stand at Brisbane this year has doubled in size to accommodate the growing range of products of our own, as well as other manufacturers and suppliers. One new addition to our site will be an Evergreen Scale Models styrene retail stand, fully stocked in the popular sizes of strip and sheet styrene. A trial version of our display was shown at the recent Bundaberg Model Train Expo, and many favourable comments were received from customers who visited our new look stand.

At Brisbane we will be adding to the product line up, and as in previous years, we will use Brisbane as our showcase to release new models, and make new announcements. A new QR building release from Queensland Scale Models is planned for Brisbane, but the big news is that we will have the pleasure of introducing a new manufacturer to the Queensland modelling scene. The first releases from this new manufacturer are rolling stock, and they will be available exclusively from Queensland Scale Models. We will have sample models from the new manufacturer and stock available for sale at Brisbane. Our website will be updated with the new products upon our return from Brisbane.

The new models will be unveiled and on display in our showcase from 9:00am on Saturday 9th May.

New Queensland Building Range & New Products Released At Brisbane Model Train Show

At the recent Brisbane Model Train Show, Queensland Scale Models was pleased to announce the introduction of our Queensland Building Range. This new range is designed to further enhance Queensland modelling and will assist in giving your layout the "Queensland Look".

The first building kit in the new range is Railway Station Building "KARRANGAR" in 1:87 HO & HOn31/2 Scale. The station bears a fictitious place name, but was inspired by the actual building at Gin Gin, about 50km West of Bundaberg.

The Queensland Building Range will be expanded further over time and will include many building styles distinctly unique to Queensland, and will not be confined to railway architecture.

Other new products released at Brisbane were Queensland Station Name Boards and Rain Water Tanks. Our Station Name Boards are available only by custom order, and can be supplied in two different styles.

Queensland Level Crossing Signs Released

Queensland Scale Models is pleased to announce three new additions to the Queensland Trackside Accessory Range.

The three new products are Queensland Level Crossing Signs in 1:87 Scale. The Level Crossing Signs are available in three separate packs and depict the style of signs used on passive level crossings throughout Queensland from the early 1900's to present day. Due to Australian standards for level crossing signs, the present day version would also be applicable to other Australian rail systems.

Our Level Crossing Signs are semifinished and require no decals or painting to the sign faces. The models require individual assembly of the components supplied in each pack, as well as painting of the posts and rear of the sign boards after assembly. Each pack contains components for two model signs to complete one level crossing.

To coincide with the release of the new Level Crossing Signs, we have also released a new pack of Whistle Boards. This Whistle Board pack contains the same signs that we have offered for some time now, but are packaged as a set of four etched brass boards and decals, as well as four pre-cut brass posts. The Whistle Boards and Level Crossing Signs are companion products and can be used together to enable modellers to achieve a highly detailed representation of a Queensland level crossing.

New Releases for 2013

While from the outside it may have appeared that there was not much happening at Queensland Scale Models over the past six months, in fact we have been very busy with work commencing on several new projects and developing a new product range designed to assist and enhance the modelling of Queensland's Railways.

In all we have 9 new products planned for release in 2013, and the first of which will be announced and available for sale in the next few days. We will once again have a stand the Brisbane Model Train Show this year and further releases of new products are planned around this event.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many customers and friends for their telephone calls and emails of support over the past couple of weeks when our region suffered a major flood which peaked on 29th January and inundated large areas of Bundaberg. The January 2013 flood was the highest flood level recorded in Bundaberg since records began in 1870. While our home narrowly escaped the floodwaters, and we are all safe and well, the same cannot be said about other business operations owned by our family which have suffered major damage, and it will take considerable time and effort to recover from this natural disaster.

2000 Class Railmotor & 1620 Class Locomotive Projects Cancelled

August 2012 marks 8 months since the announcement of our 2000 Class Railmotor project, and this month was also a checkpoint for us to analyse the progress and interest in the project. In our planning, we had flagged this date as the decision time to either proceed with the project and deliver the model in the promised time frame, or terminate the project and refund all deposit monies.

Unfortunately, the project has not achieved the necessary benchmarks in terms of orders we required to guarantee its success, and we have had to make the very hard decision to terminate our 2000 Class Railmotor project. Sadly it seems, that the Queensland market is not large enough at this present time to accept brass models. At the same time we have also decided to not proceed with the brass 1620 Class Locomotive, which was to follow the railmotor project.

We are very disappointed that we could not deliver these brass models to Queensland modellers, and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment that the decision to terminate the two projects may have caused. We would like to thank those modellers who placed orders for the 2000 Class Railmotor for their support and trust in placing a deposit with us. All customers that placed an order have been contacted by mail and all deposits have been refunded in full.

At this point we would like to advise that Southern Rail Models in conjunction with PGC Scale Models and Black Diamond Models will be announcing the release of a plastic injection moulded, Ready-to-Run 2000 Class model for delivery in 2014. This announcement has been made in consultation with Queensland Scale Models.

Shortly after we announced our 2000 Class project last December, we became aware that Southern Rail Models was also developing a 2000 Class model with the intention of announcing the project at the Brisbane Model Train Show in May 2012, and delivery in 2013. Some discussion took place between the two companies and Southern Rail agreed to withhold their 2000 Class project, and instead brought forward the 2300 Class Locomotive, which was announced at the Brisbane show in May.

Recently after further discussions, Southern Rail Models have recommenced work on their 2000 Class project, which will cover all versions and eras, and will follow on after the 2300 Class. We would like to thank Southern Rail Models, PGC Scale Models, and Black Diamond Models for their co-operation, as well as wishing them every success with their project. Further information about this model will be available on the respective websites.

Queensland Scale Models will continue to serve QR modellers in many ways. Our aim to enhance the modelling of Queensland's railways has not changed in any way, and we will continue to develop our Queensland Trackside Accessory Range as well as other projects. Further announcements on our new projects will be made in coming weeks. We will also continue to expand our range of model railway track and accessories.
