The QSM 1:87 Scale Queensland Point Lever Range
The QSM 1:87 Scale Queensland Point Lever Range depicts the 4 main types used by Queensland Railways for many decades. Our model point levers are one piece brass castings, which allows for high strength and long life on your layout. They are highly detailed and dimensionally accurate to scale.
These point levers are still in widespread use today throughout Queensland on main lines, branch lines and in yards. Some of these point levers and associated equipment have also found use in the Queensland sugar cane industry 610mm gauge rail systems.
Non-Reversible (Kangaroo) Point Lever
Prototype Overview
The Non-Reversible Point Lever is also commonly referred to as the "Kangaroo" point lever. This point lever is used on main lines and roads in yards where the point blades must be returned to main line position when not in use. It features a cast iron cheese weight to hold the point blades in position when the point lever is not in use. The position of the cheese weight is adjustable on the weight bar and secured by a cross bolt. The point lever handle must be manually held down to open the points to a siding, and when released will return the point blades to the main line.

Fold Down Non-Reversible Point Lever
Prototype Overview
The Fold Down Non-Reversable Point Lever has the same functions as the "Kangaroo" point lever, however it features a fold down lever which lays horizontal when not in use. Commonly used within yards, particularly between tracks, and situations where clearance is a problem. The Fold Down levers are normally installed parallel to the track, and in closer proximity to the track compared to the other types of point levers.. This installation arrangement will also have a point rod bell crank fitted to the mounting plate for operation of the point blades.

Reversible (Throw Over) Point Lever
Prototype Overview
The Reversible (Throw Over) Point Lever is normally used within yards and sidings where the position of the point blades can be set to either position. The lever features a cheese weight which is adjustable on the weight bar and secured by a cross bolt. Once the lever is thown over the weight of the lever holds the point blade in postion.

Spring Reversible Point Lever

Prototype Overview
The Spring Reversible Point Lever is normally used within yards and sidings where the position of the point blades can be set to either position. This point lever is distinctly different to all other QR point levers in design as it features a strong coil spring to hold the point blades closed in either position.

Prototype Overview
Point Rod Bell Cranks are used in conjunction with point levers and other point equipment to complete a turn in direction of the rod linkage. Point rode bell cranks can be found installed with any of the QR point levers.
